Returning the gaze

Last month I discovered Jordan Casteel at the MOCA exhibit One Day at a Time: Manny Farber and Termite Art . She was conducting a walk-through of the exhibition and also spoke on her two pieces in the exhibit. In her collection, Returning the Gaze, the images are transforming as it forces you to re-evaluate your perspective on how we see each other or the lack there of. The subjects pull you in and you walk away wanting to know more. Their gaze holds a story that would have not been heard but now has a voice that speaks volumes from the brightly colored canvas that Casteel has captured - one moment within a lifetime.
